During the Oranje's first match against Japan, ITV commentator Jon Champion mentioned the looming end of the former Southampton and Everton manager's contract.
"There is a very prominent Dutch coach currently without a job, of course," Champion remarked, in an obvious allusion to Slot's newly available status after departing Anfield.

The Netherlands' initial goal of the tournament originated from Liverpool, as Virgil van Dijk headed in the opener from a right-sided cross by Ryan Gravenberch.
Both players, along with Cody Gakpo, have established themselves as regular starters for both club and country, and they could potentially flourish under Slot's guidance once more.
Van Dijk disclosed ahead of the World Cup that he had conversed with his former head coach following the surprising dismissal that saw him replaced by Andoni Iraola.
"I spoke to Arne personally, that is the most important thing," Van Dijk stated at the time.
"Exactly what we discussed stays between us. For now, my complete focus is on the World Cup."
