Man City agree deal to sign England's Charles

Manchester City have reached an agreement to bring England defender Niamh Charles on board from Chelsea.

The left-back is poised to leave after a six-year stint with the club, during which she has featured 173 times.

Over her tenure at Chelsea, Charles has secured five Women's Super League crowns, four FA Cups, and three League Cups.

She was also a member of the team under former boss Emma Hayes that advanced to the Women's Champions League final in 2021.

Charles' exit from Chelsea coincides with the arrival of Republic of Ireland's Katie McCabe, who made the move from Arsenal last month.

City, who claimed their first WSL championship in ten years this past May, aim to bolster their roster depth during the transfer window as they prepare to compete in Europe next season.

They are also anticipated to bring in England forward Beth Mead, who departed from Arsenal last month.

Charles would offer crucial WSL and Women's Champions League know-how, while the England defender aims to secure consistent playing time and solidify her spot in Sarina Wiegman's lineup for the upcoming World Cup next year.
