Man City sign England's Mead on free transfer

Beth Mead has joined Manchester City following her departure from Arsenal.

Manchester City have officially announced the acquisition of England striker Beth Mead on a free transfer from Arsenal.

The 31-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the newly crowned Women's Super League champions after exiting the Gunners at the end of her contract in May.

With 81 international caps for her country, she was a member of the Lionesses squad that secured consecutive European Championship titles in 2022 and 2025, and also found the net for England against Ukraine on Tuesday.

"It was an easy decision for me," Mead stated. "I believe City's style of play fits me perfectly and can bring out more in my game."

She is anticipated to be joined in Manchester by fellow England international Niamh Charles, following City's agreement on a transfer fee with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Mead spent nine years at Arsenal, where she claimed the WSL title, the Champions League, and three League Cups during her tenure in north London.

She received an emotional farewell during the Gunners' last home match of the season against Everton in May, but informed club media that she is prepared for a "fresh start" at Manchester City.

"I'm very proud to be here," she remarked. "I believe this is a club where I can truly fit in and contribute a different energy to the squad."

City's director of women's football, Therese Sjogran, commented: "Beth's accomplishments in the sport are evident. Winning the Double last season was a significant milestone in our history, but it's one we aim to expand upon in the years ahead.

"Bringing in a player of Beth's quality and stature can only help make that happen."

Mead will strengthen a star-packed City forward line that already includes fellow England winger Lauren Hemp, Brazil forward Kerolin, Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema, and WSL player of the season Khadija Shaw, who dedicated her future to Andree Jeglertz's team at the close of the campaign.
