Perfect 10 for Hamilton and Norris keeps fighting - driver ratings — Sport

Lewis Hamilton sits second in the drivers' championship, while McLaren's world champion Lando Norris has moved up to fifth.

Lewis Hamilton secured his first victory for Ferrari on Sunday by winning the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The 41-year-old seven-time world champion shared the podium with former Mercedes teammate George Russell in second place and reigning world champion Lando Norris in third, marking the first all-British top three since 1968.

Hamilton has reduced the deficit to 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli at the summit of the drivers' standings to 41 points, following the Italian's retirement late in the race.

Franco Colapinto received a post-race 10-second time penalty for a yellow flag infringement, dropping the Alpine driver from eighth on the road to P10.

Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda moved up to P8 and P9 respectively.

Here are my ratings for how the drivers performed across the entire weekend in Barcelona.

Lewis Hamilton - 10/10

The first perfect score of the year. Typically I would save this for topping every session, but despite feeling off in the early part of the weekend, he discovered balance with the car. He narrowly missed out on pole and worked intelligently with the team to respond and adjust the strategy to claim his first Ferrari grand prix win. Even without the virtual safety car, Hamilton's pace was formidable. History was made.

George Russell - 8/10

It seemed like it could have been his weekend until the race. Ultimately, neither Mercedes had the speed to challenge the Ferrari, but being overtaken by teammate Kimi Antonelli added insult to injury.

Lando Norris - 9/10

He kept himself in contention throughout the weekend and during the race but lacked that extra element from the McLaren. He applied some pressure but ended up mostly racing on his own.

Max Verstappen - 8/10

Unhappy throughout practice. He surprised himself in qualifying, and while the race pace didn't match the frontrunners, he delivered a very strong final stint to secure some much-needed points for Red Bull.

Oscar Piastri - 6/10

Another instance where the Australian's weekend faded. Typically, we see Piastri improve in every session, but the opposite nearly occurred for the McLaren driver this weekend.

Isack Hadjar - 7/10

Very close to Red Bull teammate Verstappen in qualifying. However, wheelspin off the starting line forced him into a comeback drive.

Pierre Gasly - 9/10

Out-qualified by Alpine teammate Franco Colapinto after struggling with brakes and attempting to overhaul the entire car. A good strategic call under the VSC paid off with points.

Liam Lawson - 9/10

Another excellent weekend for New Zealander Lawson, who nearly lost out due to the VSC, but reliability issues for others combined with a quick car saw him back in the points.

Arvid Lindblad - 8/10

Should have challenged for a spot in the final part of qualifying, but Racing Bulls teammate Lawson had the edge on him this weekend. Still had enough pace to secure another points finish.

Franco Colapinto - 8/10

A better weekend, but it remains very inconsistent for Argentine Colapinto. He out-qualified Gasly but couldn't match him in the grand prix, then received a post-race time penalty that dropped him two places.

Gabriel Bortoleto - 5/10

A tough weekend for Audi's Bortoleto. He was beaten in first practice on Friday by rookie driver Paul Aron and never really looked comfortable.

Carlos Sainz - 7/10

A track where Williams were always going to struggle. It was hard for the Spaniard to have extracted more from his car.

Esteban Ocon - 5/10

He tried an alternative strategy from his Haas teammate Oliver Bearman that didn't work out but kept it together to bring the car home.

Sergio Perez - 7/10

It was always unlikely that Perez would repeat his Monaco heroics, but once again the Mexican was clear of teammate Valtteri Bottas and brought it home for Cadillac.

Charles Leclerc - 6/10

Two retirements in a row for the Ferrari driver. A self-inflicted crash in qualifying took him out of race-winning contention.

Kimi Antonelli - 8.5/10

Overdriving the car and struggling with tyres, but he then came back strong in the race. He was quicker than Silver Arrows teammate Russell again, but reliability issues left him without points.

Oliver Bearman - 5/10

An anonymous weekend for Haas and Bearman, and issues led to him finishing the race early.

Alex Albon - 5/10

Now the official leading all-time starter for Williams, but that's as good as it gets.

Fernando Alonso - 4/10

Aston Martin were never going to perform well here, but the Spaniard was out-qualified by teammate Lance Stroll and then retired from the race.

Nico Hulkenberg - 8/10

When will the Hulk catch a break? He looked set for points this weekend after a strong qualifying for Audi. Gravel was his undoing as he retired from the race.

Valtteri Bottas - 6/10

He narrowed the gap to Cadillac teammate Perez this weekend but is still behind and retired.

Lance Stroll - 5/10

The first retirement of the day, and even though he wasn't bothered about out-qualifying teammate Alonso for the first time in more than 40 races, it earns him an extra point.
