BBC Sport has introduced new app features for the World Cup

The 2026 World Cup is upon us, and it is larger than ever, with 48 nations competing for football's ultimate prize across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The BBC is providing the finest coverage of the tournament, and we are also going all out, unveiling a range of new features on the BBC Sport app so you can experience the World Cup in an entirely new way.

From live match updates displayed on your lock screen to shortform videos and even 3D match experiences, ensure the BBC Sport app is in your pocket for the duration of the tournament and beyond.

Here are some of the new features you can look forward to.

FIFA World Cup 3D experience

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be on the pitches at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico?

Or would you like to explore the tactics, formations, and movements of the world's top football teams in depth?

Well, now you can, thanks to BBC Sport's World Cup 3D experience—an immersive tool that gives football fans full control over live matches, replays, and highlights.

Choose your angle, rewind key moments, and even relive goals from your favourite player's perspective on the field. See passes, runs, formations, strategies, and goals as the action unfolds right before your eyes.

You also receive live match data and statistics for the perfect second screen experience.

This feature, powered by technology from Immersiv.io , external , will debut during host nation Canada's first World Cup match, when they take on Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday, 12 June at 20:00 BST.

Live match updates

Live match updates from BBC Sport will keep football fans informed of the World Cup scores they care about

The BBC Sport app now makes it simpler than ever to stay on top of your football team's progress whenever they play, with live match updates on your lock screen.

When your team is playing, the score will appear on your lock screen and update throughout the 90 minutes and beyond.

Simply follow your favourite teams, and we will handle the rest.

Do not want that scoreline spoiled? Just swipe away the live match updates, and it will return the next time your team plays. Find out more .

BBC predictor game

BBC Sport's new predictor game offers fans the chance to test themselves during the World Cup

Put your football knowledge to the test and trust your instincts by predicting all the World Cup results.

Join BBC Sport's World Cup predictor game and compete against fans worldwide.

Simply go to the Scores tab on the BBC Sport app and select the Predictor tab to participate. Learn more here .

Players will also have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win an official World Cup football signed by members of the BBC World Cup team.

There will also be daily BBC Sport quizzes and a new Guess the World Cup Star game to keep you entertained while waiting for those late-night kick-offs.

New, improved search

BBC Sport's new, revamped search function allows football fans to find more of the content they love

We have also been busy enhancing every part of the BBC Sport app, and you can now find all the topics you love with our improved search function.

Search in the BBC Sport app can now return articles as well as topics, helping you find the latest stories, match build-up, reports, reaction, and analysis more quickly during the World Cup.

You can also discover new features, videos, and more about the topics you care about.

On iOS, tap the search icon, or "Search", depending on your version.

On Android, tap "All Sport" to open search.

Follow your country, your way with My Sport

If you are looking for coverage of a specific country at the top of your app, the easiest way to do that is by using My Sport.

Whether you want to specifically follow the fortunes of England, Scotland, or any other country taking part, here is the easy way to do it:

When you first go into the BBC Sport app , you will be prompted to sign in or create an account.

When signed in, go to the My Sport tab at the bottom of the screen.

If you haven't already used My Sport, you will be met with a screen telling you to "choose which topics to follow". Options include Scotland Sport, Scotland Men's Football Team and England Men's Football Team but also topics for a variety of countries from around the world, from Algeria to Uzbekistan.

If you have already set up My Sport, go to the My Sport tab and press Edit, and follow the same process.

Whichever you select, these will appear at the top of the Home tab when you open the app, and the latest stories from each will appear in the My Sport tab.
