Chelsea ended the 2025-26 Premier League season with the worst red card record of any club.

Their total of eight send-offs in league matches—rising to 11 across all competitions—set a new club record, and was double that of Tottenham, who had the second-worst tally.

That left Chelsea just one card shy of matching the all-time record for most red cards in a single Premier League campaign.

Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers jointly hold that record, with nine apiece.

The Black Cats were the first side to collect nine red cards in a season during the 2009-10 campaign, with QPR matching that dubious achievement two years later.

Chelsea players Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Moises Caicedo, Wesley Fofana (twice), Marc Cucurella, and Pedro Neto were all sent off by referees this season.

Former head coach Enzo Maresca was also dismissed late in Chelsea’s victory over Liverpool in October.

However, Tottenham did surpass Chelsea in terms of yellow cards this campaign, accumulating 99 compared to the Blues’ 90.

Chelsea’s worst Premier League seasons for red cards so far have been:

2025-26 - eight red cards

2007-08 - six red cards

2009-10, 2015-16, 2005-06 - five red cards
