A two-year-old boy has sustained serious injuries, and two other children have been hurt, following a car colliding with a nursery playground.
According to police, a vehicle drove through a fence at the Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school on Vale Road in the Whitby district of Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, shortly before 09:55 BST.
The two-year-old boy was seriously injured after being hit by the car and has been transported to hospital for additional medical care. Two other children suffered minor injuries after being struck by fencing.
A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving.
Officers responded to the scene alongside colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service, and the boy was taken to hospital with "what are believed to be serious injuries."
The children's next of kin have been notified.
The force stated: "Officers are currently on the scene and are carrying out a number of investigations to fully determine the circumstances of what is considered to be an isolated incident."
Local MP Justin Madders said he was "deeply saddened" to learn of the incident.
"My thoughts are with the young child who has been seriously injured and their family during what must be an unimaginably difficult time," he said.
"I am also thinking of the other children involved, their families, and the nursery staff who have endured a traumatic event."
