A man has been taken into custody following an incident in which a woman was allegedly pushed into the path of a bus in south-west London in May 2017.
Surveillance footage from the time shows a jogger running along Putney Bridge and appearing to shove the woman, then aged 33, into the roadway. She avoided sustaining serious harm.
On Monday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers had arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. He remains in police detention.
The force had ended its inquiry into the incident in 2018 after three men were arrested and subsequently released without facing charges.
The video footage reveals the approaching bus is forced to veer into the adjacent lane to prevent hitting the woman.
Sgt Mat Knowles remarked at the time: "It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle."
Bus driver Oliver Salbris told the Sunday Times following the incident: "If I hadn't swerved, I would have smashed her head.
"It was reflex. The consequences would have been terrible for her β and for me."
It was reported at the time that roughly 15 minutes after the push, the jogger returned across the bridge in the opposite direction and ignored the victim when she attempted to speak with him.
Detectives identified over 50 individuals of interest in their investigation before concluding the probe in 2018, stating that all possible leads had been exhausted.
