Piers Morgan has stated that only one nation can prevent England from securing their first World Cup victory since 1966, and he predicts history will be made across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
A record 48 teams are competing this year, yet just a select few are considered frontrunners to go all the way and claim the iconic trophy. And for good cause. Only seven of this year’s qualified nations have ever won the World Cup, underscoring how uncommon a first-time champion is.
Cristiano Ronaldo, a well-known associate of Morgan, aims to deliver Portugal’s maiden triumph in the tournament. That would secure his place in the record books and further solidify his status as one of the greatest of all time. However, Morgan does not believe CR7 will lift the trophy this year.

Instead, the British journalist and media personality thinks only two teams have a realistic shot at winning the World Cup. First, he has backed Thomas Tuchel’s England to reach the final stages, with just one side capable of edging out the Three Lions.
England kick off their campaign against Croatia on Wednesday night, followed by group matches against Panama and Ghana. The 2018 semifinalists are considered strong contenders, given Tuchel has a wealth of exceptional talent to choose from.

But Morgan believes Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil can spoil the party and extend his country’s 60-year drought. The 62-year-old shared his bold prediction on X, stating:
"No country has ever won it with a foreign manager, but this is the year that ends. England or Brazil will win, and Tuchel or Ancelotti will make history."
He is correct; no manager has ever won the World Cup while coaching a nation he wasn’t born in. That is an incredible statistic, but one Ancelotti and Tuchel could break if they triumph this year.
Brazil 'Best Suited' to World Cup Conditions
Morgan did admit he would 'love' to see Portugal and Ronaldo finally claim the trophy if England were unable to go all the way. He said: "If England don’t win then I’d love to see Portugal win it."
However, he still views Brazil as 'dangerous' and even stated they are 'best suited to the conditions'. He continued: "But Brazil have an amazing squad, a great manager, are best suited to the conditions, and nobody is talking about them much… dangerous!"
