The tournament's opener was a lively 2-0 triumph for co-hosts Mexico, courtesy of goals from Raul Jiminez and Julian Quinones, alongside two red cards for South Africa and one sending off for the winners.
South Korea vs Czechia followed: the latter took a 1-0 lead after 60 minutes, before the South Koreans staged a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory with strikes in the 67th and 80th minutes.

Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina was next. The co-hosts conceded an early thunderbolt from Jovo Lukic, saw a brilliant goal-line clearance from Sead Kolasinac, and then substitute Cyle Larin equalised to end Group B's opening match in a 1-1 draw.
Following drama between former USMNT forward Clint Dempsey and Canada boss Jesse Marsch, the final co-host nation, the USA, delivered the strongest showing of the three with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay.

Next came Qatar vs Switzerland, which finished 1-1 after a late own goal from Swiss left-back Miro Muheim levelled the score in the 94th minute. Then Brazil vs Morocco showcased what the Africa Cup of Nations champions were made of, also ending in a 1-1 stalemate with Morocco dominating proceedings.
John McGinn gave the Tartan Army a night to remember in Group C, as his 28th-minute strike saw Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 for their first World Cup victory in 36 years.
Australia vs Turkey in Vancouver gave the Socceroos a 2-0 win in a contest far closer than the scoreline indicated. Nestory Irankunda opened the scoring with a classic World Cup strike, before Connor Metcalfe doubled the lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Germany thrashed Curacao 7-1 in what is quickly becoming a signature blow-out World Cup victory for the Germans. They now account for three of the five World Cup matches this century in which a team has scored seven or more goals.
Netherlands vs Japan followed with an absolute classic, as the latter came back from one-goal deficits twice to level the final score at 2-2. Later, Cote d'Ivoire secured a late 1-0 win over Ecuador thanks to a brilliantly instinctive goal from Amad Diallo.
In the early hours of Monday morning, goals from Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, Yasin Ayari, and Mattias Svanberg produced a strong 5-1 victory for Sweden against Tunisia.
For today's matches, Spain were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Cape Verde, which resulted in the biggest lost bet in 2026 World Cup history so far. Egypt then delivered a dominant performance against Belgium to earn a point in Group G, with the match ending 1-1.
