Englishman and Bolton Wanderers supporter, Theo Ogden has expressed his love and support for Morocco at the World Cup, claiming the African nation's people are 'like family'
A football fan who was born in England but claims he "feels Moroccan" has decided to back the African nation in winning the FIFA 2026 World Cup . Whilst the Three Lions have made it through to the round of 32 where they will face DR Congo later today (July 1), Morocco have impressed too having dispatched the Netherlands on penalties at the same stage.
Theo Ogden, who is known by his social media content creator name, Thogden, appeared in an interview with Casablanca-based news platform, Le360 where he professed his love for the North Africans. "I love Morocco and I have travelled all the way to Mexico to watch them play," he declared in a video shared to X.
Thogden continued: "The fans and the people are so welcoming to me... I've had dinner with so many random families that I never knew and now they have become my close friends. In fact, I call them family. It's my second home."
The Bolton Wanderers fan went on to reveal he's visited several Moroccan cities and even witnessed the country take on Senegal in the African Cup of Nations final last year.
"Although I was born in England, I feel Moroccan," Thogden continued. "My blood is red and green. My dream is for Morocco to play in the World Cup final and I think we can go that one step further."
Indeed, Morocco reached the semi-finals at the previous World Cup in Qatar in 2022, only to fall to a 2-0 defeat to France. It was the best performance by an African team in the history of the tournament.
Thogden closed: "My message to Le360 and all the Moroccan people watching is, 'Keep supporting your national team. Be proud to be Moroccan.
"Go to other countries and wear your red and green t-shirts. Speak to people, meet people, and be friendly just as you have been to me."
Writing in response, one English X user slammed: "His parents failed him big time."
A second person quipped: "We used to call this treason."
A third joked: "Feels Moroccan but isn't speaking Darija. Put in some effort lad.
While a fourth hit out: "Very, very, very cringe."
Thogden earned the praise of one Moroccan X user, however, who gushed: "He even speaks like a Moroccan! Yas finals here we come! So happy. Dima Maghreb [Long live Morocco]!
