Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United 's proposed signing of Ederson after reports emerged claiming the deal had collapsed . It has been a relatively slow summer for United so far, with Michael Carrick having plenty of work still to do this summer.
United need to find a replacement for Casemiro , a situation which was not helped by them missing out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham, while they will want to add another attacker and pad out their squad elsewhere before the window is done.
One deal everyone assumed was ticked off, and the only one so far for United this summer, was the £38.5million signing of Ederson, but there have been fresh reports claiming the deal has fallen through.
Ederson deal being held up by United demand - Romano
Man Utd are still on course to sign Ederson from Atalanta, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, but they have requested an extra medical after the midfielder's shock exit from the World Cup with Brazil.
Romano said on his YouTube show : "Brazil are out of the World Cup, which means Ederson is out of the World Cup. Manchester United have an agreement for the midfielder, a verbal agreement, the documents are all ready, all set, but after the first medical check for Ederson, Manchester United want one more check, they want an extra check before signing the contract.
"The first part of medical was done with the Brazilian medical staff also present in the US, because Ederson was also at the World Cup, but Manchester United, before signing off a deal for Ederson, they want another check in England. Now, Ederson is out of the World Cup, he can travel, do his medical at Man Utd and then there is going to be the verdict on this deal. So, it's about the medical. They have to do one more check.
"The contract is ready at 45million euros, so we are waiting to see the developments on this story. But the next check is obviously going to be very important."
Ederson deal is propping up Man Utd's summer window
With United having only agreed to sign Ederson so far, the early piece of business was the only source of hope for United fans this summer, especially with the club's refusal to sign Fernandes at a higher price.
The deal also means United have less to do in midfield, given they want - and indeed need - two midfielders this summer, but if the Ederson deal falls though, not only are fans going to start questioning the efficiency of the club's recruitment this summer, but there is going to be concern over the club's ability to fill their positions of need this summer.
Having said all that, it doesn't sound as though there is any cause for concern with the Ederson deal, only that the Red Devils want to do the medical on their terms rather than have the Brazil medical staff dictating what the player can and can't do.
Man Utd are already busy in the summer transfer window.
