GB's Hewett keeps alive hopes of Wimbledon double

Great Britain's Alfie Hewett won two matches on Thursday to progress in the men's wheelchair singles and doubles.

Hewett, 28, started in the morning with a 6-4 6-1 win over China's Ji Zhenxu to reach the wheelchair men's singles semi-finals.

The world number two and 10-time Grand Slam singles winner returned later to team up with fellow Briton Gordon Reid as they beat France's Stephane Houdet and Ji 6-4 6-3 to reach the wheelchair doubles final.

The six-time Wimbledon champions will meet Japan's Tokito Oda and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez in the showpiece on Saturday.

The British pair were broken twice in the first set of the semi-final against Houdet and Ji but then won four games in a row to seal the opener.

The second set was delayed for 13 minutes because of a mechanical issue with Houdet's wheelchair, which was eventually sorted, but it did not take Hewett and Reid out of their rhythm.

Hewett will face Fernandez in the wheelchair singles last four on Friday in the second match on Court One.

Andrew Penney lost 6-0 6-1 to Spain's Martin de la Puente in the men's wheelchair singles second round.

Britain's Lucy Shuker and South African partner Kgothatso Montjane were beaten 6-3 6-2 in the women's wheelchair doubles semi-finals by Japan's Yui Kamiji and China's Zhenzhen Zhu.

In the quad wheelchair doubles semi-finals, British pair Andy Lapthorne and Gregory Slade suffered a 6-4 6-1 defeat by the Netherlands' Sam Schroder and Australia's Jin Woodman.

Lapthorne gets another shot at Schroder on Friday when they meet in the quad wheelchair singles semi-finals at 11:00 BST on Court 14.
