The Argentinian official refereed Canada's 1-1 opening game draw vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as South Africa's 1-0 win against South Korea in Group A.
In 2022, he refereed Morocco's 1-0 quarter-final victory against Portugal, serving five bookings, one of which was red.
On this stage, Tello isn't so quick to wield his cards, averaging a low 3.2 bookings per match.
In Liga Profesional de Futbol, where he has officiated the majority of his games, that average rises to 5.7 bookings per fixture.
The Argentinian official has never awarded a spot kick in five matches on the World Cup stage.
