Chris Mintz-Plasse is best known for his iconic role of McLovin in classic comedy Superbad, but left fans stunned when he emerged after two years to support Argentina
Argentinian football fans have cheered after a reclusive actor broke his silence to support the team against England. His decision to come out of silence in support of the team has sparked a wave of buzz.
Chris Mintz-Plasse is best known for his role as Fogell, better known as McLovin, in the hit 2007 comedy Superbad . At the time, McLovin was a huge fan favourite with his off-the-cuff quiffs and awkward demeanour.
In the film, Foggell is able to fool a store clerk using a fake ID under the iconic name McLovin . But right before he is about to take the alcohol, he is knocked down by a robber holding up the shop.
Since then, actor Chris has starred in a number of other big teen movies, including Kick-Ass, Year One and Pitch Perfect. But after a string of huge films and TV shows, Chris has quietly faded into the background, with his last acting credits being in animations.
Chris has also retreated from using social media, but on Wednesday (July 15), Chris stunned fans by posting to his X (formerly Twitter) account for the first time in two years. Posting a mirror selfie to his account he proudly wore a vintage Argentina football jersey as he looked at the camera.
Writing in the caption, Chris penned: "I am never on twitter anymore, but heard rumblings I have been summoned. LETS GET IT DONE."
The actor and director posted the snap just over an hour before England's crucial match against Argentina took place, with a spot in the World Cup final up for grabs. Argentina fans were quick to rush to the replies, floored at Chris' support.
One user shared a World Cup sticker featuring McLovin's name, joking in the caption: "Let's go McLovin!!" While a second added: "McLovin, he's our national treasure!"
A third Argentinian fan penned: "How does it feel to be Argentinian now, McLovin?" While one account backing England was less kind, penning in the replies: "Always knew McLovin was a p***k."

It comes as Argentina face off against England in the semi-final of the World Cup, with the match being held in Atlanta. At the time of writing, Argentina and England are both yet to score − while fans have hit out at officials for the number of fouls that been seen with no action taken.
Both England and Argentina have amassed huge fanbases over the course of the tournament, with Argentina also bring in the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy who was seen cheering on the defending champions. However, England has also drummed up huge support from fans across the world as they hope to make it into the World Cup final against Spain on Sunday (July 19).
