Victoria Villarruel, Argentine Vice President, has been called out by her own people after she suggested her nation could 'claim what's ours' by winning tonight's World Cup game against England
The Argentine Vice President has dubbed England footballers and fans "usurping pirates" ahead of tonight's World Cup semi-final match between the two nations.
Victoria Villarruel on Monday Tuesday night took to X to write a bizarre post about England , adding "this isn't just another match" and that it's about "putting the brakes on the invaders". She wrote: "Tomorrow we play against the usurping pirates.
"This isn't just another match. I'm not going to be politically correct or cold-hearted; against the English, it's always something more. It's the Malvinas, it's Diego, it's Leo's last one, and it's putting the brakes on the invaders. Go Argentina! Because until our last breath, we're going to claim what's ours!"
However, Argentines were quick to call her out and suggest they had no idea what she was talking about.
One person wrote in response: "What the hell does one thing have to do with the other? Stop the car of what?
"If Argentina wins, what would happen? What economic benefit would it bring us?"
Another added: "Vicky, YOUR government is repealing the land law so it can be filled with foreigners, it's allowing an Israeli embassy to be installed in Tierra del Fuego, it's allowing the Yankee militarization of the oceanic platform.
"To which invaders are you putting the brakes on, huh?"
One angry commentator said it was a joke Villarruel thought a football match could help them "claim what's ours".
They wrote: "They keep going with their DEVALUED CURRENCY, a country sunk in S***, EXTREME POVERTY, salaries that don't even cover basic services, terrible EDUCATION, among many other things...
"And they want to sell a SIMPLE FOOTBALL MATCH as if that were going to change their SAD REALITY."
Meanwhile, England fans were pictured in the early hours partying ahead of tonight's game in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia.
The two nations are now set to face off at the 75,000-seat Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Wednesday night, with a place in the World Cup final at stake.
