Thomas Tuchel is expected to stay on as England manager despite heavy criticism after the Three Lions World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina on Wednesday.
Anthony Gordon’s goal early in the second half put England on course for a first final since 1966, but defensive substitutions and a low block allowed Argentina to dominate the final stages, until Enzo Fernandez equalised and Lautaro Martinez headed in Lionel Messi ’s cross in added time.
Tuchel claimed he will remain in charge for Euro 2028 , when England will be one of the host nations, but there have already been calls from some quarters to dismiss the German.

Bookies odds for next England manager
If England do choose to move on from Tuchel, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is currently the bookies’ favourite to replace him.
Betfair have Howe at 5/2 to be the next Three Lions boss, ahead of Pep Guardiola at 10/3.
Guardiola is now a free agent after ending his decade-long, trophy-laden spell with Manchester City at the end of last season.
While Howe and Guardiola are the clear frontrunners according to the bookies, several other names are in the frame.

Mauricio Pochettino, whose USA side were knocked out in the last 16 by Belgium , is 7/1 to be the next England boss.
Former interim manager Lee Carsley, meanwhile, is 15/2 to get the nod, having continued to impress with the Under-21s.
And in case the FA suddenly realise they didn’t appreciate what they once had, Gareth Southgate is 10/1 to take the job for a second time.
Sweden head coach Graham Potter is 11/1 to switch international jobs, while Frank Lampard is 12/1 after an excellent spell with Coventry City.
Kieran McKenna, after leaving Ipswich Town following a second promotion from the Championship in three years, is 16/1.
As for the outsiders, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is 20/1 to become the next England manager, and ex-Villa manager and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is 22/1.
For now, though, it seems Tuchel will continue, with odds of 1/5 that he will be in charge for England’s first Nations League match against Spain in September.
